About myself
I am Gabriël Noerens, a 20-year-old drummer from Zottegem, East Flanders, Belgium. My journey with drumming began at the age of ten when I discovered my passion, which led me to take private lessons. I later continued my musical development at SAMWD (Zottegem, BE), where I studied drums with Laurens Van Bouwelen and played in a jazz combo under the guidance of Christophe De Maertelaere.
To further refine my skills, I enrolled at the High School of Arts Kunsthumaniora MUDA in Evergem (Ghent, BE), where I earned my high school diploma with jazz drums as my main subject, studying under Matthias Standaert. In October 2022, after successfully passing my entrance exams for Codarts, the University of the Arts (Rotterdam, NL), I moved to the Netherlands to fully immerse myself in jazz and learn what it takes to become a full-time musician. Since October 2022, I have been an active member of the Ghent Youth Jazz Orchestra. Additionally, I lead my own jazz trio. We explore the possibilities of contemporary jazz and traditional standards, performing a mix of original compositions and existing tunes. With this trio, we have played at renowned festivals such as North Sea Jazz and Midsummer Jazz. As a sideman, I have been involved in a wide range of projects. Most recently, I have also been the drummer for the Codarts Bigband and toured with Belgian pianist and composer Jef Neve as part of his project “That Old Feeling”.
